Summer Art Camps Register View Cart

Each lesson is professionally developed and the projects are created by the art instructor. They will be associated with a famous American, Folk Tale, American artist or American symbol, in history. The kids will have an independent project during down time. It is possible that all of the projects listed will not be completed because of limited time. The instructor will include a painting project, clay project, sculpture and drawing.

Grades 1-3

Participants will draw subject matter associated with American history, such as George Washington, Johnny Appleseed and Paul Bunyan, Fourth of July. They will identify Symbols of America, draw them and apply them to their art. A drawing book will be compiled. They will become aware of various art works and artists. They will be able to mix colors and be knowledgeable of the various brushes and uses before painting. It is possible that all of projects will not be accomplished.

Drawing our First President- Gilbert Stuart, artist
Clay relief sculpture, Stars and Stripes Forever
Pop Art Fourth of July Fireworks-Any Warhol, artist
Purple Mountains Majesty -Oil pastel
Painting an apple tree-Johnny Appleseed, American folk hero
Minting a coin, Walking Liberty


*Usually, 6 projects will be accomplished during each week of camp.


Grades 4-6

Participants will be instructed in contour drawing and gesture drawing as a prerequisite to the projects. The kids will draw subject matter associated with American history, Johnny Appleseed and Paul Bunyan, Fourth of July. They will be introduced to American artists and their works. They will identify the symbols of America, draw them and apply them to the art. They will be instructed in color theory and brush stroke techniques before painting. The following is a list of projects, mediums and artists to be studied. It is possible that all of projects will not be accomplished.
